Japan sales for the week ending November 1, 2026, reveal an interesting contrast. Nintendo Switch 2 dominates the software rankings and comfortably leads hardware sales, but the biggest multiplatform result belongs to Final Fantasy Resonance. Meanwhile, Minecraft has made an immediate impression with its new Switch 2 edition.
The latest figures also show how Nintendo’s two console generations continue to share space in Japan. New Switch 2 releases occupy prominent positions, while original Switch games remain competitive. However, looking beyond individual rankings gives a clearer picture of which titles attracted buyers during the week.
Japan sales reveal a strong week for Switch 2 software
Nintendo Switch Sports Resort remains Japan’s best-selling game for a second consecutive week, adding 23,466 copies and bringing its lifetime total to 88,098. Its position at the top is particularly notable because several new releases entered the ranking during the same reporting period.
The motion-controlled sports game continues the series that began with Wii Sports. Players can try 12 different sports, using Joy-Con 2 controllers as equipment such as rackets, bows and steering wheels. In addition, online multiplayer supports up to eight participants, while dedicated single-player modes provide alternatives for those playing alone.
Nevertheless, the number-one position is only part of the story. Minecraft entered directly in third place with 11,754 copies on Switch 2. Its updated presentation includes Vibrant Visuals, with improved lighting and shadows. The Super Mario Mash-up pack also benefits from more vivid graphics, and existing Switch players can continue using their previous worlds.
According to Famitsu’s Japanese software and hardware sales report published on November 5, these estimated figures cover October 26 through November 1, 2026. Software totals combine physical copies, download cards and pre-installed versions rather than representing every digital purchase.
Final Fantasy Resonance stands out when its three versions are combined
Although Nintendo Switch Sports Resort leads the individual ranking, Final Fantasy Resonance recorded 34,068 copies across Switch 2, PS5 and Switch. That combined total exceeds the weekly figure of any single game edition in the top ten.
Square Enix’s RPG holds second place on Switch 2 with 14,462 copies, followed by its PS5 edition in fourth with 11,181. The original Switch version contributes another 8,425 copies from sixth place. Together, these results illustrate why separate platform rankings do not always reveal the full performance of a multiplatform release.
Another example is Sanrio Party Land, which debuted in seventh and eighth place. Its Switch 2 edition sold 7,365 copies, while the Switch version added 6,252. Consequently, the two editions achieved a combined opening of 13,617 copies. The game features more than 45 Sanrio-themed minigames and supports up to four players.
Meanwhile, Rhythm Heaven Groove climbs from sixth to fifth with 8,753 weekly copies and a lifetime total of 1,111,851. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave holds ninth place, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 completes the top ten on PS5.

Switch 2 hardware sales lead while PS5 Digital Edition carries PlayStation
The hardware side of Japan sales reinforces Switch 2’s position. Nintendo’s latest console sold 68,733 units during the week, reaching an estimated lifetime total of 6,521,352. No other individual hardware model comes close in this reporting period.
Interestingly, PS5 Digital Edition recorded 15,988 units, considerably more than the standard PS5’s 89 and PS5 Pro’s 149. Those figures describe this particular week, however, and do not establish a longer-term change in Japanese buying habits.
| Console model | Weekly units | Lifetime units |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | 68,733 | 6,521,352 |
| Nintendo Switch | 795 | 20,315,535 |
| Nintendo Switch Lite | 2,589 | 7,048,240 |
| Nintendo Switch OLED | 2,469 | 9,652,203 |
| PlayStation 5 | 89 | 5,920,873 |
| PlayStation 5 Digital Edition | 15,988 | 1,512,153 |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | 149 | 371,397 |
| Xbox Series X | 616 | 330,207 |
| Xbox Series X Digital | 192 | 34,915 |
| Xbox Series S | 84 | 343,317 |
Adding the listed models together gives Nintendo 74,586 hardware units across Switch 2 and the original Switch family. The three PS5 models total 16,226 units, while the Xbox Series family reaches 892. These are calculations from the reported weekly figures, not additional sales estimates.
For wider context, Battle4Play recently examined how Switch 2 passed 26.35 million units worldwide. We also covered PS5 reaching 97.9 million worldwide shipments. Those global milestones use different reporting periods and should not be directly compared with Famitsu’s Japanese weekly estimates.
Ultimately, these Japan sales results tell two connected stories: Switch 2 leads the domestic hardware market for this particular week, while multiplatform releases such as Final Fantasy Resonance demonstrate the value of examining combined software totals. Famitsu is scheduled to publish positions 11 through 30 from November 6, offering a broader view of the week’s game purchases.
