Ghost Rider Midnight Sons Rumor Changes Marvel’s Future

Ryan Gosling’s 2028 film could become Marvel’s gateway to supernatural heroes, with new insider claims connecting Midnight Sons and Mephisto.

Marvel’s supernatural future might depend on a single motorcycle. The latest Ghost Rider Midnight Sons rumor suggests Ryan Gosling’s upcoming film could introduce more than one fiery antihero. Instead, it might establish a new corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where demons and occult threats take center stage.

However, that larger plan remains unconfirmed. Marvel Studios has announced Ghost Rider, but the alleged Midnight Sons connection comes from insider reporting. The distinction matters, especially when several separate rumors begin to resemble an established production roadmap.

Why Ghost Rider could become Marvel’s supernatural starting point

Marvel Studios confirmed its Ghost Rider movie starring Ryan Gosling during San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026. Shawn Levy will direct, while the studio plans a 2028 release. Those details give Marvel’s supernatural ambitions a concrete project after years of uncertainty surrounding Blade.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade film has struggled to move forward. Consequently, Ghost Rider could provide another route into the darker side of the MCU. Unlike a traditional superhero origin, this character naturally opens stories involving curses, demons and dangerous bargains.

That difference creates an interesting opportunity. Marvel could explore supernatural mythology without immediately introducing an entire team. First, audiences would meet the central character. Later, other supernatural figures could emerge if the studio chooses that direction.

The Ghost Rider Midnight Sons rumor points beyond one movie

On October 31, 2026, insider Daniel Richtman claimed Marvel was preparing Midnight Sons as a major project following Ghost Rider. According to his claim, Gosling’s movie would help establish the foundations for that supernatural ensemble.

The report gained attention through X accounts, including @cosmic_marvel’s post discussing the rumor. That post attracted more than 8,800 likes. Nevertheless, social media engagement does not verify a studio’s plans.

Importantly, Marvel Studios has not announced a Midnight Sons movie. It has not confirmed that Ghost Rider will introduce the team, either. For now, this remains Richtman’s claim rather than an official development update.

Still, the concept has established comic-book roots. Marvel assembled the Midnight Sons during the early 1990s, bringing supernatural characters together around threats ordinary superheroes rarely faced. Ghost Rider, Blade and Morbius all belong to that wider comic-book tradition.

Mephisto could connect Marvel’s supernatural stories

Another claim from Daniel Richtman adds a possible antagonist to this developing picture. The insider says Sacha Baron Cohen could return as Mephisto in Ghost Rider. Marvel has not confirmed his involvement in the film.

Cohen previously appeared briefly as Mephisto during the finale of Ironheart on Disney+ in 2025. Therefore, the character already has an established presence within the MCU, even though his future remains uncertain.

A Mephisto appearance would make thematic sense for Ghost Rider. Both characters belong to Marvel’s darker supernatural mythology, where souls, bargains and punishment frequently shape conflicts. However, thematic compatibility should not be mistaken for evidence of a planned crossover.

Meanwhile, insider ApocHorseman claims Ghost Rider could begin filming in July 2027. That proposed production window would precede the announced 2028 release. Yet Marvel has not verified the filming date, so it remains a separate, unconfirmed report.

What Midnight Sons could mean for Marvel movies and games

One reason this rumor deserves attention lies beyond cinema. Marvel already explored the supernatural team concept through Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the tactical role-playing game released by Firaxis and 2K in December 2022.

Although the game and the rumored movie project are different productions, they share a recognizable creative foundation. Both draw from Marvel’s supernatural characters rather than its conventional superhero teams.

For audiences, that distinction could become important. Midnight Sons would offer a different identity from the Avengers, with horror influences and morally complicated heroes. Such an approach could expand Marvel’s storytelling without relying entirely on multiverse conflicts.

That contrast is particularly interesting alongside Marvel’s wider multiverse future, including Secret Wars and Zombies. Supernatural stories could provide another narrative direction, although Marvel has not announced such a strategy.

Furthermore, Marvel’s comic-book adaptations continue to move between different entertainment formats. The character-focused approach in Marvel Tokon’s Phoenix and Cyclops gameplay coverage illustrates another way familiar heroes reach gaming audiences.

Ultimately, the Ghost Rider Midnight Sons rumor raises a more interesting question than whether another Marvel team will appear. Could Gosling’s film become the foundation for an entirely separate supernatural storyline?

For now, only Ghost Rider’s announced film, its star, director and planned release year are established. Midnight Sons, Mephisto’s return and the reported filming schedule still await official confirmation.
