Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble will disappear before most of the world ever gets the chance to play it. Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Oh BiBi are ending support for their free-to-play mobile arena shooter, turning what was supposed to be a gradual international rollout into a countdown to permanent closure.

For existing players, however, the game is not disappearing immediately. There are two deadlines worth separating: November 21, 2026, is the last day of store availability, while May 1, 2027, marks the permanent server shutdown. Until then, multiplayer battles and seasonal rewards will remain accessible.

Ratchet & Clank Ranger Rumble will close before its worldwide debut

The decision was announced on November 6, 2026, through the official Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble website. The development team confirmed that work on the project has ceased, with a final planned update arriving on the same date.

What makes this cancellation unusual is its timing. Ranger Rumble never received a full worldwide release. Instead, Sony and Oh BiBi introduced the iOS and Android shooter gradually through a series of regional soft launches.

The Philippines and Indonesia received access in November 2025, followed by Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark in December. Canada joined the limited rollout in May 2026, while the United Kingdom received access in August 2026. Consequently, the game spent its entire public lifespan available in only a handful of markets.

That distinction matters. This is not simply a long-running mobile game reaching the end of its life. Ranger Rumble is being discontinued without completing its international launch. Players outside the supported regions never received the broader release that might have introduced them to its multiplayer battles.

Ratchet & Clank Ranger Rumble has three important shutdown dates

The closure will happen in stages rather than through a single immediate shutdown. Anyone who already has access should pay particular attention to the difference between losing the ability to download the app and losing the ability to play it.

  • November 6, 2026 — Final planned update: The last scheduled update begins rolling out through Apple’s App Store and Google Play. No further updates are planned after November 7.
  • November 21, 2026 — Store removal: Ranger Rumble is delisted from both mobile storefronts. New players can no longer download it, and existing players lose the option to reinstall it through those stores.
  • May 1, 2027 — Permanent server shutdown: Online services end, the servers close permanently and the game will no longer load, even for players who previously installed it.

In practical terms, store removal does not mean an immediate loss of gameplay. Existing installations can continue functioning until the final shutdown. Nevertheless, anyone who needs to reinstall the game should do so before November 21.

This is an important difference from other digital removals. Battle4Play recently covered the upcoming delisting of two Street Outlaws racing games, where existing owners can retain access after sales end. Ranger Rumble faces a more definitive outcome because its online infrastructure will also be switched off.

Existing players can still enjoy multiplayer and unlock rewards

Although development has stopped, Oh BiBi is keeping the existing gameplay experience available during the remaining months. Current modes, multiplayer matchmaking and competitive features are scheduled to operate until May 1, 2027.

There is also a notable change to the game’s progression system. The Super Pass is now free, and Qwark Pass seasons will continue until the servers close. As a result, players can earn seasonal content through gameplay without purchasing the premium pass.

Existing players can still:

  • Play online matches across the available game modes, including competitive multiplayer.
  • Re-download the game until November 21, 2026, if they previously had access.
  • Progress through Qwark Pass seasons and earn Super Pass content for free until May 1, 2027.
  • Earn and spend in-game currency on upgrades, cosmetics and characters.
  • Claim available rewards before the permanent end of service.

However, real-money in-app purchases have already been removed. Players can continue using currency earned or previously purchased, but there is no longer an option to buy additional items with real money.

Anyone seeking a refund for earlier purchases must check eligibility through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Refunds are not automatically guaranteed, and the applicable storefront handles the process.

The shutdown highlights a different kind of digital game removal

Ranger Rumble’s closure illustrates why a game disappearing from a storefront is not always the same as a game becoming unplayable. Sometimes publishers withdraw a product while allowing existing customers to keep using it. In other cases, continued access depends on servers that will eventually stop operating.

For example, Battle4Play has also examined the removal of Film Red music content from One Piece Pirate Warriors 4. In that situation, existing owners retain access to the affected downloadable content. Ranger Rumble is different: once its servers close, keeping the app installed will not preserve a playable version.

That makes the remaining months particularly significant for anyone who participated in its limited release. Players can revisit their favorite modes, finish seasonal progression and use accumulated rewards, but those activities have a fixed expiration date.

The official announcement also makes clear that the cancellation does not affect other Ratchet & Clank games or PlayStation services. This decision concerns the mobile multiplayer project specifically, rather than the wider franchise.

Neither Sony nor Oh BiBi has provided a confirmed reason for ending development. Therefore, it would be premature to attribute the decision to player numbers, financial performance or any particular development problem.

Ultimately, the Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble shutdown leaves a distinctive chapter in the franchise’s history: a free-to-play experiment that reached several countries but never completed its global rollout. For those who experienced it, May 1, 2027, is more than a routine service deadline. It is the last opportunity to play a Ratchet & Clank game that many fans never had the chance to try.
