Halloween is usually a good excuse to revisit a favorite horror game. This year, however, Xbox subscribers have something different to consider. The final Game Pass Halloween games arrive on October 29, bringing dinosaur chases, psychological horror, undead plants and one enormous role-playing adventure.
What makes this lineup particularly interesting is its variety. Three of the four additions fit the Halloween atmosphere, yet they offer completely different experiences. Meanwhile, Microsoft is closing October 2026 with 17 new Game Pass games, five more than September. The real question is which ones you can play with your subscription.
Game Pass Halloween games offer three different kinds of fear
The most unusual arrival is Terrible Lizards, a first-person horror platformer that launches directly into Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on October 29. Instead of giving players weapons to fight dangerous creatures, it turns movement into their only reliable defense.
The adventure takes place at Dalton’s Dinos, an abandoned dinosaur attraction along Route 66. Players must escape monstrous predators by running, climbing, sliding and wall-running through dangerous environments. There is no conventional combat system. Consequently, every successful escape depends on understanding the surroundings and maintaining momentum.
Behind the project is North Carolina-based WDR Studios, a debut developer founded by the creators of the nerdcore music channel JT Music. Digital Pajamas and Behaviour Interactive, the company behind Dead by Daylight, are publishing the game. Its journey began with a curated appearance at PAX Rising in August 2025, followed by a formal reveal in March 2026. On August 26, the developers confirmed both its release date and its Game Pass debut.
There is also Mouthwashing, which brings a very different kind of discomfort. Rather than emphasizing speed and acrobatic escapes, this horror experience builds its identity around psychological tension and an unsettling narrative. Its October 29 arrival also marks its Xbox console debut, making it a day-one console addition to Game Pass.
Finally, Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted provides a lighter alternative. Its colorful tower-defense battles replace terrifying pursuits with familiar plant-based defenses against waves of zombies. It is not a day-one release, but its arrival through EA Play gives eligible subscribers another Halloween-friendly option.
Which Game Pass subscription unlocks each October 29 game?
There is one detail worth checking before deciding what to download: not all four games are included in every Game Pass plan. The distinction matters particularly for Premium subscribers, who receive two of the new arrivals but miss the other two.
Terrible Lizards: Available through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, with support for cloud gaming, PC and Xbox Series X|S. Its inclusion coincides with the game’s worldwide launch.
Mouthwashing: Included with Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass. Supported platforms cover cloud, Xbox consoles, compatible handheld devices and PC. Therefore, Premium members can access this horror release without upgrading to Ultimate.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade: Available through Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass, supporting cloud, compatible handhelds, PC and Xbox Series X|S. Square Enix’s ambitious RPG is the only non-horror addition in this final batch.
Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted: Available on cloud, console and PC through Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Premium is excluded because this addition comes through EA Play, a benefit included in the two eligible subscriptions.
This difference highlights an increasingly important part of Xbox’s subscription strategy. A large catalog does not necessarily mean every member receives identical access. Battle4Play previously examined how Game Pass discounts and subscription pricing can influence the value players receive. October’s final additions offer another reason to examine the benefits of each tier before paying.
Why these Game Pass Halloween games cap 17 October additions
Although the horror theme makes this final update particularly memorable, the bigger story is the volume of content. With these four games, Xbox Game Pass reaches 17 new additions during October 2026. That represents five more arrivals than September, without counting Keeper and Sandustry, which expanded into the Premium catalog this month.
However, raw numbers only explain part of the appeal. Microsoft is combining new independent projects with established franchises, major RPG productions and games reaching additional platforms. Terrible Lizards represents discovery, Mouthwashing expands console access, while Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade adds a substantial adventure for players who want something longer.
The inclusion of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is particularly useful for subscribers uninterested in horror. Square Enix’s modern interpretation of its classic RPG offers cinematic storytelling and action-oriented battles, creating a sharp contrast with the smaller, more experimental experiences arriving alongside it.
Meanwhile, the Halloween timing makes October an interesting month to compare subscription services. As we explored in our PlayStation Plus October 2026 lineup, Sony has also emphasized horror experiences alongside major adventures. Xbox’s final selection offers another example of how seasonal releases can influence what subscribers choose to play.
From a player’s perspective, the most valuable distinction is not whether one service adds more games. It is whether those games offer something worth starting immediately. A short, intense horror experience and a lengthy RPG serve different audiences, even when they arrive on exactly the same day.
November’s confirmed Game Pass releases keep the momentum going
October’s final additions are not the end of Microsoft’s current release schedule. Several games already have confirmed November dates, including more day-one releases and an important update to an existing Game Pass title.
On November 2, Gravhounds arrives as a day-one Game Preview release for Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Its cooperative action and building mechanics provide a change of pace after Halloween.
Then, on November 3, Pit of Goblin brings cooperative horror to Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass. Microsoft is also expected to announce November’s first official wave of Game Pass additions that day, although any unannounced games remain unconfirmed.
November 4 marks the version 1.0 release of Void/Breaker, a bullet hell roguelite already available through PC Game Pass and Ultimate since August 2025. This is an update to an existing catalog game rather than a completely new Game Pass arrival.
Looking further ahead, Football Manager 27 joins Ultimate and PC Game Pass on November 10. One day later, Thronefall arrives for Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass, coinciding with its day-one Xbox Series X|S launch.
These dates show how quickly the subscription catalog can move between genres. Horror gives way to cooperative building, strategy, management and fast-paced roguelite action in less than two weeks.
Ultimately, the Game Pass Halloween games are more interesting for their differences than their shared release date. Terrible Lizards tests your reflexes, Mouthwashing targets your nerves, Plants vs. Zombies offers lighter undead entertainment, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade provides a major RPG escape. With 17 new additions across October, Xbox has given subscribers plenty of choice. Which of these four would you play first?
