The next big reason to revisit Dotemu’s superhero brawler might not be another familiar face. The MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Castle Doom mode introduces a different kind of challenge, one built around unpredictable routes, permanent progression and increasingly dangerous enemies. Arriving November 10, 2026, alongside the game’s second DLC, it could change how players approach repeat playthroughs.

Instead of relying entirely on its original beat ’em up formula, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is adding a roguelike-style experience where decisions carry consequences. With Doctor Doom and the Invisible Woman joining the playable roster, the update offers both new combat options and a fresh reason to experiment.

Why MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Castle Doom changes the usual formula

Traditional arcade beat ’em ups often encourage players to memorize enemy patterns, improve their execution and replay familiar stages. Castle Doom approaches that repetition differently. Its branching routes and selectable upgrades mean players must consider more than their ability to defeat the next group of enemies.

At the center of the mode sits the Siege Gauge, a mechanic that makes the castle progressively more dangerous. As it fills, Doctor Doom’s forces become stronger. Players must therefore advance through the fortress and stop its ruler before he activates the Cosmic Inductor.

That creates an interesting tension. Exploring alternative routes may offer useful opportunities, but surviving increasingly powerful opposition becomes another concern. Consequently, choosing where to go and which advantages to pursue could be just as important as mastering a character’s attacks.

The most significant difference is that Castle Doom is designed around repeated attempts rather than a single journey through a fixed campaign. For players who have already experienced the original adventure, that structure offers a potentially meaningful change of pace.

How MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Castle Doom rewards every attempt

Castle Doom gives players 12 different perks to consider during their runs. By collecting Battery Cells and completing challenges, they can obtain upgrades focused on defense, damage or tactical advantages.

However, the strongest option will not necessarily be the same in every situation. A defensive improvement might help a struggling character survive longer, while additional damage could suit an aggressive approach. Tactical perks introduce another layer of decision-making, particularly when combined with the castle’s branching paths.

More importantly, progression does not end when an attempt finishes. New equipment and events become permanently available in Reed’s Lab, giving players additional possibilities for subsequent runs. This persistent progression helps distinguish Castle Doom from an ordinary survival challenge.

Players can also unlock modifiers that increase difficulty while offering greater rewards. That creates a natural progression for experienced fans: first learn the mode, then experiment with different combinations, and eventually attempt tougher versions for better returns.

Whether those systems remain engaging over dozens of attempts will depend on their balance and variety. Nevertheless, the underlying design gives Castle Doom something valuable for a beat ’em up: objectives that extend beyond simply finishing another stage.

Doctor Doom and Invisible Woman bring two new combat options

The second DLC also expands the playable roster with Doctor Doom and Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. Their arrival follows the May 18, 2026 expansion, which introduced Cyclops and The Thing.

That earlier update concentrated on expanding the selection of recognizable Marvel fighters. This time, however, the new characters arrive alongside a mode that encourages repeated experimentation. Their inclusion could therefore feel more substantial, particularly for players interested in testing different approaches across multiple castle runs.

Sue Storm is already receiving attention through official gameplay footage. Dotemu has published an 18-minute Castle Doom gameplay demonstration on YouTube, featuring producer Rémi Lavoie and lead designer Kevin Chiasson.

The presentation explores branching routes, the Siege Gauge, run modifiers and the Invisible Woman’s fighting style. It also provides a useful look at how the new systems fit together before launch.

Doctor Doom’s arrival is especially interesting given his growing presence across Marvel games. Battle4Play recently examined the Doctor Doom and Nightcrawler rumors surrounding Marvel Rivals Season 11. Unlike those unconfirmed possibilities, Doom’s playable appearance in Cosmic Invasion has been announced.

It is a notable contrast: one Marvel game is preparing to let players control the villain directly, while another continues to generate speculation about his potential role.

Two million players give the new DLC a bigger opportunity

According to Insider Gaming’s November 7 report, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion has surpassed two million players since its December 2025 launch. That figure reflects the game’s reported reach, although it should not be confused with confirmed copies sold or the number of people still playing regularly.

Even so, it provides useful context for the second expansion. Dotemu is no longer introducing content to an entirely new audience. Instead, Castle Doom has the opportunity to attract returning players who already know the original combat system and want something different to master.

The launch roster included Wolverine, Spider-Man, Venom, Captain America and Iron Man. Subsequent additions have broadened that selection, while Castle Doom now gives players another setting in which to explore the game’s combat possibilities.

This also highlights two different approaches to extending Marvel games. While Cosmic Invasion is investing in repeatable challenges and permanent progression, other titles are emphasizing character rewards and customization. For example, MARVEL Tōkon’s free Phoenix Five costume for Magik offers a different incentive for players to return.

The timing is competitive, too. Castle Doom launches on November 10, the same day as Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. With several releases competing for attention throughout November, a substantial new gameplay mode could help Cosmic Invasion stand out to its existing audience.

The DLC is scheduled to arrive simultaneously on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its price has not been confirmed in the available reports, so players will need to wait for further details before knowing the cost of entry.

Ultimately, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion Castle Doom looks more interesting for its progression systems than for the addition of two famous characters alone. If its branching paths, upgrades and escalating challenges deliver enough variety, the mode could give Dotemu’s pixel-art brawler a stronger long-term identity. The question is whether players will keep returning to Reed’s Lab after their first successful escape from Doom’s fortress.
